Dr Sarpong Resigns As Kotoko Chairman

Jerome Otchere, a member of the Communication Team of Asante Kotoko has confirmed the resignation of the Board Chairman, Dr Kofi Kodua Sarpong. The confirmation comes after media speculations that Dr Sarpong has tendered his resignation letter to the Manhyia Palace. He told GNA Sports that the Board Chairman resigned on his own. The resignation of Dr Sarpong comes barely four days after he led the team to present the league trophy to the Life Patron, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Manhyia Palace. Despite Kotoko winning, Dr Sarpong has been at the receiving end of criticisms from a section of the fans, who have raised questions about his management style. The Board Chairman was blamed for the Porcupine Warriors dismal performance in the CAF Champions League, where they crashed out of the preliminary stage to Algerian minnows, JSM Bejaia, after letting go some key players of the club. During his three year reign, Kotoko won the Premier League twice and reached the finals of the FA Cup on two occasions. He has also masterminded the progress of the Adako Jaachie Project which consists of a training ground, office complex, camping hostels for both the junior and senior teams plus a gymnasium. Meanwhile, Manhyia has yet to comment on the resignation of the Board Chairman.
