Nine Ghanaian Journalists have arrived in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to participate in an oil, gas and mining (OGM) media training programme to help them understand the dynamics of the sectors in the economies of African countries. The nine journalists will join 20 others from Tanzania and Uganda for the training, which is a collaboration between Penplusbytes in Ghana, Journalists� Environmental Association of Tanzania, African Centre for Media Excellence in Uganda, and Thomson Reuters Foundation. The Ghanaian journalists are Moses Dotsey Aklorbortu of the Daily Graphic, Vincent Acheampong of the Independent, Morkporkpor Anku of Ghana News Agency, Masahudu Kunateh of the Chronicle, John Nyaaba of Style FM, Ms Emelia Ennin of the Daily Guide, Malik Abass Daabu of Myjoyonline and Akwasi Sarpong of the BBC. Three parallel follow-up core courses will take place in each of Ghana and Uganda later in the year. The programme of support includes professional mentoring by seasoned journalists, access to reporting grants, study tours in and outside the country, interaction with experts and actors on extractive issues, prizes for outstanding journalism on extractives, and other learning and professional opportunities. Revenue Watch International is a sponsor providing participants bursaries in tuition, course materials, professional mentoring, travel and accommodation, among others to ensure successful completion of the programme. The journalists will complete the first part of the six months programme on August 2 and are expected back home on August 3.
