The Attorney-General and the Director of Prisons are to produce hip-life artist Deeba Acheampong in court today. The Accra Fast Track High Court on Monday ordered the two to produce the accused person in court today after his lawyer, Mr. Augustine Obour, told the court that his client had been taken to the United Kingdom. But his lawyer is uncertain as to whether his client would be produced in court or not. He told The Finder in an interview yesterday that the orders of the court were served on the A-G and the Director of Prison, and that it was imperative on them to obey the orders of the court. Asked whether he has gotten any indications about his client�s arrival in the country, Mr. Obour said he could not confirm whether his client was in the country or not, and that he would wait for court proceedings today. The Accra Fast Track High Court is hearing an appeal challenging the order for the extradition of Deeba to the United Kingdom (UK) where he is wanted for prosecution. But the accused on July 17 was taken out of the country to the UK to face prosecution. His lawyer told the court on Monday day that he received a call from his client with a security line that he was being taken away to the UK. According to him, that explained the absence of the A-G�s representative in court on Monday. Mr. Obour prayed the court to order the respondents, the A-G and the Director of Prisons, to produce his client. The court, in granting his request, further ordered that the order should be served on the prosecutor in the case and the Director of Prison. Mr. Obour told the press after court proceedings that his client was extradited on July 27. On July 15, Mr. Obour filed a formal appeal at the Accra Fast Track High Court challenging the order for the extradition of his client to the United Kingdom, where he is wanted for prosecution. The appeal was to be head by the court on Monday. Deeba�s lawyers had earlier filed a habeas corpus application which they argued constituted an appeal in an extradition proceedings, but the court disagree with the, discarding that argument as unfounded in law. Deeba, who is alleged to have raped his eight-year-old stepdaughter in the United Kingdom, was on June 7, 2013 ordered by the Osu District Magistrate Court in Accra to be extradited to the UK for prosecution on charges of rape, after it found, as a fact, that a prima facie case had been made against him. At the court�s last sitting on July 11, Mr. Obour prayed the Fast Track High Court to order the Registrar of District Court to forward the entire record of the proceedings in Deeba�s extradition trail to the High Court for it to determine the daily basis of the committal of the fugitive. He told the court that they were challenging the order of the District Court, saying; �We believe the District Court erred and that it is not as if the order of the lower court is final in the case. �We hold that there is no treaty between, Ghana and UK,� Mr. Obour said, adding that �it is fair that the record is transferred so that we argue again as to whether the order was right or not.
