Policemen Reject GH₵10,000 Bribe

Four police personal who arrested their colleague and nine civilians for stealing underground cables belonging to Vodafone Ghana have been honoured with IGP�s special medal. They are Inspector Sylvanus Yao Kpogli, Detective Corporal Anthony Amponsah, G/Lance Corporal Richard Awini Abugri and G/Constable Kwame Ofori, who are all stationed at Achimota Mile 7 Police Station. A citation conferring the honour on the officers stated: �You worked at the Achimota Mile 7 Police Station and on 23 July 2013 you were detailed upon intelligence that some persons were stealing Vodafone cables at Achimota Mill 7 township. You encountered nine civilians and a police inspector in police uniform at the scene pulling Vodafone underground cables into a stationery vehicle.� The citation added, �As you were about to arrest them they offered you GH₵10,000.00 to influence you to drop the case, which you refused. You also stood your grounds against a police officer who was using his position and influence to let drop the case but displayed high level of integrity and arrested the gang. It stated further that the police officers displayed high level of professionalism and courage by arresting the suspects, which included a police officer. �Having served with efficiency, exemplary leadership and integrity, the Inspector General of Police awards you the IGP�s special medal,� the citation stated. It would recalled that the July 24 edition of The Finder carried a story in which a police officer and nine civilians were arrested for stealing Vodafone cables at Mile 7 in Accra. The suspects are Police Inspector Enoch Lamptey of Railways Police Station; Abass Abubakari; 38, a driver; Ohene Toffa, 35, a driver�s mate; Abubakari Elias, 24, Okada man; and Kojo Agyepong, 37. The others are Aminu Salifu, 25; Yakubu Abdulai, 25; Adam Abdala, 20; Lamini Fuseini, 26; and Abubakari Alhassan Damba, 38, all scrap dealers.
