The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has dropped hints about its intention to appeal an Accra High Court ruling last Thursday which overturned recent elections held at the Eastern Regional FA and reinstated Okoforobuor Nana Budu I as the chairman of the regional body.
Counsel for the GFA in the case, Thaddeus Sory, has stated emphatically that the football governing body will appeal against the court decision which annulled the purported polls which elected Abdul Ganiyu Lawal as regional FA boss.
The court, presided over by His Lordship Justice Erasmus Gyinae, also awarded a GH�30,000 cost against the GFA for failing to conduct the election in accordance with an earlier order of the court.
Speaking to Accra-based Happy FM last Friday after the verdict, Mr Sory indicated that the FA would appeal the ruling because the election was conducted in a peaceful and legal manner.
�We will definitely appeal the ruling by the High Court. I don�t know why the judge ruled like this. I am so sad today because a court and its judge do not rule like that and it is highly unfair. We did the elections and Nana Budu even campaigned on that fateful day, so what is all this?� he was quoted by footy-ghana.com as saying.
�If they are saying the Congress failed to render the accounts on time before conducting the elections, that argument is neither here nor there. We will appeal this case and I know we all know Lawal is the legitimate winner of the elections.�
