Out of a total of 2,213 traffic accidents recorded at the Korle Bu Accident Centre in the first half 2013, more than a quarter of the total -659, to be precise � were accidents involving passengers-carrying motor bicycles or okadas, as this mode of commercial transportation is commonly known. A doctor at the Centre, Dr. Henry Bulley, who reveled this to The Finder, said until the middle of last year, the hospital was not recording okada crashes separately. But the centre�s staff realized that crashes involving okada were becoming rather rampant so decided to keep account. Dr. Bulley said injuries from okada crashes tended to be worse than those involving motor cars, and fatalities in okada crashes far output those involving motors cars. To make matters worse for the okada, most of the operators ignore the little protection available to them, which is the helmet. Total number of accidents recorded this year is however slightly lower than last year�s. For the first half of this year 2,213 accidents were recorded as against 2,339 for last year.
