Minister Pledges Support For Sports Associations

The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS) has initiated steps to assist various Sport Associations to clear equipment locked at the ports due to lack of funds. The Ministry has instructed sporting associations engulfed in such situations to furnish the National Sports Authority (NSA) with the details for the necessary action to be taken. Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, the Minister said the move forms part of efforts to develop and promote sports in the country adding that, the unavailability of was hampering the development of of the affected sporting disciplines. �I have asked the concerned Sports Associations to submit the details to forward to the appropriate ministry for clearance. This is part of our strategy to assist the sporting disciplines to develop. �We cannot cry over lack of equipment when we have a backlog of them at the ports and can support our development,� he stated. Information gathered from the NSA indicates that, a deadline of Friday, August 2, has been set for the submission of details for clearance. According to a source, affected associations include Ghana Tennis Association, Rowing and Canoeing Association, Ghana Weightlifting Association (GWA) and Ghana Fencing Association.
