DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye, Western Regional Police Commander, has warned that his outfit would deal ruthlessly with individuals who are planning to cause mayhem in the region after the Supreme Court verdict on the presidential election petition. He said �the law is supreme and the decision by the Supreme Court in the ongoing election petition is not subject to anybody�s interpretation.� He indicated the preparedness of the Regional Police Command to maintain peace in the country after the ruling by the Supreme Court. �One of the tenets of democracy is the rule of law and it is the constitution of the country that allows any political party that suspects foul play in any general election to send the case to court. �So I don�t see the need for us to seek peace if all Ghanaians are ready to accept the verdict of the Supreme Court,� he added. DCOP Kofi made the disclosure at a meeting organized by his outfit for representatives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), as well as religious leaders in the Western region. It was aimed at discussing the maintenance of peace after the Supreme Court verdict. According to the Regional Police Commander, it was incumbent on the police to maintain the relative peace in the country. �The court case is a novelty but we don�t have to wait for something to happen before rising up to it. The Police are seriously preparing for any eventuality. We will therefore deploy proactive strategies to effectively deal with trouble makers,� he stressed. Nana Owusu-Ankomah, Regional Chairman of the NPP and the NDC representative, Daniel Darlington told the gathering that their respective political parties would accept the ruling of the Supreme Court. Bishop Emmanuel Kweku Botwey, Coordinator of the Ministers� Network in the Region, indicated that peace is the most sought-after commodity in the world. In line with this, he urged the two political parties in court to sensitize their grassroots supporters to accept the court�s verdict. Godwill Arthur, Vice President of the Regional Branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), called on media practitioners to be objective and abide by the ethics of the professional.
