A 29-year old trader who was arrested with 43 wrappers of Indian hemp popularly called wee and drinks believed to have been laced with the narcotic substance would spend the next six months in jail for the offence.
Vincent Wormuwude was put before an Accra Circuit Court where he was charged with the supply of narcotic drugs without license. He admitted the offence before the trial judge, Francis Obiri.
The accused pleaded with the court to temper judgment with mercy as he was a first offender and would not deal in drugs again.
The trial judge consequently sentenced the accused to six months imprisonment.
The prosecuting officer, Chief Inspector Patrice Hanson who presented the facts of the case told the court that the accused person was a trader at Agbogbloshie and stayed around the market.
He said on April 10, 2013, the Narcotics Unit of the Police Service heard that the suspect was dealing in narcotics and proceeded to arrest him at his wooden structure at Agbogloshie.
According to him, a search inside the wooden structure yielded 43 wrappers of dried leaves suspected to Indian hemp which the trader claimed ownership of.
Furthermore, he noted that the police found a green plastic container with alcohol in it believed to have been laced with wee.
The prosecutor stated that during interrogation the accused person admitted that the alcohol was indeed laced with wee and said he usually sold each of the wee wrappers for GH50p.
He explained that the trader was consequently arrested after investigations.
