25 Suspected NDC Youth Arrested

Twenty-five suspected youth of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Kpasa in the Nkwanta North of the Volta Region have been arrested by the police. At the time of going to press, seven of the suspects had been released by the police The suspects allegedly took part in the vandalisation of property in the town last Thursday. The suspects are being held at the Ho Police station for screening and further investigation to ascertain the real culprits and put them before the law courts. Last Thursday, some irate young supporters of the NDC went on a rampage in the Nkwanta North District of the Volta Region and burnt five of the party�s vehicles. This followed an announcement that Mr Paul Livingstone Dzato, the District Chief Executive of the area, had been re-nominated by the President to continue as District Chief Executive. The youth accused Mr Dzato of being a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Speaking to the Daily Graphic in Accra on Sunday, the Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mr Cephas Arthur, said the move was in line with the police administration determination to deal with persons involved in disturbances irrespective of their political affiliation. Mr Arthur said if any of those arrested or yet to be apprehended were found culpable, they would be dealt with according to the dictates of the law. In July this year, a mob of angry youth of the NDC at Salaga in the Northern Region destroyed and set on fire the party�s constituency office in protest against the President�s nomination of DCE.
