K.T. Hammond To Sue The Herald Newspaper

Minority spokesperson on Energy and Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, K.T Hammond, has denied allegations that he owes the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) GHC 30,000 in unpaid bills. The former Deputy Energy Minister in the erstwhile Kufour administration has also threatened to sue The Herald Newspaper for the fallacious publication which he claims has tarnished his reputation. Speaking on Adom FM, Mr. Hammond wondered why his reputation would be tarnished for an offence he has never committed. I sometimes wonder how some people think in this world. For all this while I have been campaigning for this against illegal connection of electricity, so why would I steal electricity after all? If i am supposed to be their uncle or brother; wont they (The Herald) respect me? he questioned. I have seen my lawyers and preparing a writ to sue them (The Herald) in court. They will soon appear in court to justify the publication, he said. The Monday edition of The Herald Newspaper carried a front page story which claimed that the home of the Minority Spokesperson on Energy has, for years, been illegally connected to the national grid. The Editor of the newspaper, Larry Dogbey, insists the publication was not printed to deliberately damage the outspoken MPs reputation. Meanwhile, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has denied The Herald Newspaper publication and describing it as misleading.
