One-Week Old Abandoned Baby Rescued

A baby girl of about one-week-old found abandoned in front of a church building at Kyirapatre in Kumasi Sunday morning has been rescued alive. The beautiful baby suspected to have been dumped by the mother, was found by a church elder of the Kyirapatre Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) wrapped in a rag and left in front of the main entrance of the church building. The baby was then taken to the Kumasi South Hospital to be given medical attention. When the Graphic Online got to the hospital at about 8.30am, officials at the Maternity Ward where the baby was being kept said she was brought in with yellowish eyes. Ms Patricia Duah, a nurse, indicated however that the babys condition was not life-threatening. People who rushed to save the baby rained curses and insults at whoever perpetrated the evil act. The church elder, Mr Theophilus Ofosuhene, giving details of how he came across the baby said he went to the church at about 5.30am Sunday to supervise some work. On reaching the gate he saw a rag in front of the gate but there was no sign a baby was in. I kicked the rag lightly and much to my surprise the shrill cry of a baby was heard from inside it. Immediately I picked up the baby and called the assembly member for the area who came and we sent the baby to the hospital after informing the police, he said. The assembly member for Atonsu-Agogo, Mr Eric Osei who was also at the hospital said he led the police to the hospital to see the baby. Meanwhile, the police have begun investigations into the matter.
