Stephen Atubiga, a member of the Communication Team of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), has refuted claims of threatening to sue the nine Judges of the Supreme Court, presiding over the election petition should they let go of the General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie popularly known as Sir John and Hopeson Adorye, a member of the Communication team of the NPP; who has been asked to appear before the Court on charges of contempt. According to Atubiga who was also once sentenced to three days imprisonment on similar charges, he only indicated that the punishment meted out to him as well as Sammy Awuku and Ken Kuranchie should also be given to Sir John and Hopeson Adorye otherwise �they (Supreme Court) would not have been fair to them". Atubiga is alleged to have said on Adom FM on the 9th of August that the Supreme Court Justices �are unjust� and went further to threaten them with a law suit. The allegation was from the quarters of the 'Young Patriots', a youth wing of the NPP. The 'Young Patriots' at a press conference on Monday indicated that they have written to the registry of the Supreme Court to arrest certain individuals they believe have made statements that amounts to contempt of the Court and Stephen Atubiga happens to be one of them. According the Pro NPP group, Atubiga described the nine justices of the Supreme Court as �unjust� and threatened to sue them. However, speaking in an interview on Citi Eye witness news, Monday, Atubiga asked the Young Patriots to go back to the recording of 9th August and listen carefully adding, �How on earth will I be so stupid and ignorant to say that I am taking the justices to the USA� on what locus, on what authority and right do I have to say that?� �... They (Young Patriots) are not doing Sir John any good - the nest has caught a big one and so they should find ways and means to remedy it. They have rather committed contempt because they are rather interfering in the affairs of the Judiciary. My self, Sammy Awuku and Ken Kuranchie, we�ve paid our prize�they should go back to the tape to listen to what I said�I never said I will sue the judges�they have to talk to their lawyers to educate them... I wasn�t threatening anybody,� he surmised. Although he claims he doesn�t remember describing the Judges as �unjust�, he is of the opinion that as a victim, he has the right to cry foul if someone also violates the law and is being allowed to go free. He added that even if the case of Sir John and Hopeson Adorye is referred to the Attorney General, they have not been treated fairly: �we should also have been treated that way� �I am a victim and I can cry foul� Why is it that, I went through the death chamber and someone won�t go through the death chamber?� he asked.
