Top Four called off

The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) has called off this years Top 4 tournament citing financial and time constraints. The tournament, a prelude to the season for the top four Premiership sides has been cancelled for the second year running. The competition was scheduled for September 1-11, four clear days before the commencement of the 2013/14 league with a source telling GNA Sports that, GHALCA was compelled to cancel the event due to limited time and financial difficulties,. The source said the umbrella body of league clubs was forced to shelve the idea with issues spinning beyond their control. GHALCA had struggled to pin down a period for the tourney long before the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) directive to have all national leagues end before May 18, 2014, a month ahead of next years World Cup in Brazil. The directives meant GHALCA had limited luxury with time, with their original plans for a month-long event prone to 10 days by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) last week.
