Minister appeals for support for Farmers Day

Dr Ahmed Yakubu Alhassan, Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, has appealed to corporate institutions and new businesses to support this years National Farmers Day celebration. He said the cost of organising the event was expensive, which the Ministrys budget alone could not run. Dr Alhassan made the appeal when he received a cheque for GH10,000 from the National Investment Bank (NIB) as their contribution towards this years National Farmers Day. The event, which comes-off on December 6, 2013 at the Sogakope Senior High School, is on the theme: Reducing Post-harvest Losses for Sustainable Food Security and Nutrition. It also marks the 29th Farmers Day Celebration. Dr Alhassan commended the bank for their continuous support to the Farmers Day programme over the years. He said the contribution of NIB towards the National Farmers Day had become a culture of the bank, which must be applauded. He said it cost GH1.5 million to organise the 2012 National Farmers Day programmes across the country and this years programme had been estimated to cost GH2.00 million to organise. Mr Jerry Nathaniel Halm, Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs of NIB, who presented the cheque, said the bank over the years, had been associated with the celebration of the National Farmers Day and the presentation of the GH10,000 was one of such gestures. Other corporate organizations, who had earlier donated towards the celebration, included CFAO, donating a trailer and a cultivator while CALLI Ghana Ltd presented a cheque for GH25,000. Meanwhile, other corporate bodies such as YARA Ltd, Weinco Ghana Ltd and Guinness Ghana Ltd had responded to the Ministers call to support this years National Farmers Day programme.
