Presiding And Assembly Members Must Consider Themselves As Leaders

The Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Akwasi Oppong Fosu says Presiding members and all Assembly members must consider themselves as leaders in their communities. He said the Ministry cannot tolerate leaders who cannot control their temperament. He told Radio Ghana that the rejection of government nominees by Assembly members for negotiation for some form of payment before nominees are confirmed is setting the tone for corruption. Mr Oppong Fosu was speaking to Radio Ghana's correspondent after attending Presiding Members meeting in Kumasi. He said he witnessed a row between the KMA Chief Executive and the presiding member and called for patience in the face of provocation. On the question of election of DCE'S, the Minister referred to the recommendations of the constitutional review committee which he said government is considering.
