I Didnt Expect Government To Use Tax Payers Money To Investigate A Doctored Tape

Lawyer for Sammy Awuku, the man at the centre of the latest tape recording and Deputy Communication Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mike Ocquaye Jnr lawyer has expressed bewilderment at governments intention to use the tax payers money and time to investigate a tape which has been doctored. Government yesterday, decided to give a copy of a tape on which Samuel Awuku is allegedly heard discussing the possible elimination of some of the judges who will rule on the election petition to the police for further investigations. Public Relations Director of the Ghana Police Service, DSP Cephas Arthur, has confirmed that a copy of the tape has been handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) by government. Speaking on the issue, lawyer Mike Ocquaye Jnr said he would not have expected the Deputy Minister of state to be using tax payers money; in terms of their time to be going to the police with tapes. It baffles me and therefore I begin to wonder where the tape is coming from in the first place Sammy Awukus lawyer told Citi FMs Eye witness news that they have also written to the CID police commissioner, petitioning him to conduct proper investigations as far as the fabricated and doctored tape is concerned. We have also taken it to court and we know that the courts are one of the most neutral bodies in this country and evidence will be sorted out in that matter and we shall proceed accordingly. Sammy Awuku is very upset simply because his hard earned reputation has been tarnished. The question is; who seeks to benefit from that...the next thing is causing injury to the nation and we will not want to promote any of that in this country and that is why we have taken a legal step, he stated. He also indicated that they dont have any problem with the police investigating. however, we pray that the investigations will include the very people who they themselves have commissioned such a thing. That is what we are asking the police to also look into.
