Wakaso Pens Four-Year Deal With Rubin Kazan

Ghana midfielder Mubarak Wakaso has sealed a four-year deal with Russian club, Rubin Kazan. The 23-year old inked the deal on Wednesday, joining from Spanish La Liga outfit, Espanyol. A statement on the official website of the Kazan-based club said: Mubarak Wakaso has signed a contract with Rubin Kazan joining from Espanyol of Spain. The agreement between the Rubin Kazan and Wakaso is until the summer of 2017. According to the statement, the midfielder has been assigned number 21 and is expected to team up with his new colleagues immediately. Wakaso was a subject of transfer after an contract extension standoff with Espanyol, before Rubin Kazan came knocking at his door. The left-footed midfielder will have a visual glimpse of his new team in a UEFA Europa League qualifier against Norwegian side Molde on Thursday, August 29 at the Kazan Arena. The Russians were 0-2 losers in the first leg. He becomes the third Ghanaian players in the Russian top flight after close pal Mohamed Rabiu (Kuban Krasnodar) and Abdul Majeed Warris (CSKA Moscow). The hard-tackling midfielder has 10 caps with the Black Stars and six goals to his credit. Wakaso has had stints with Elche, Villareal and Espayol all in Spain since leaving AshantiGold in 2008.
