GFA Unhappy With Negative Criticism On Essien Return

A spokesperson for GFA, Ibrahim Sannie Darra says the negative criticism on the return of Chelsea Midfielder, Michael Essien is unfair. This he explains is because Essien never left the national team but only asked to be excused so he could have time to nurse his injuries. Meanwhile, a Football Analyst, Christopher Opoku said Ghanaians should accept the return of Michael Essien, Andre Ayew and Kevin Prince Boateng. He described their return as a Psychological boost for the team. The Chelsea midfielder shocked the football world on Tuesday when he was named in the squad to face Zambia in a World Cup qualifier in Kumasi next month. The 30-year-old was returning to the Black stars after a mutually agreed two-year international exile from the Black Stars. Essien is said to have sought permission from the GFA to stay out of Ghanas matches to enable him regain his form at Chelsea after suffering career threatening injuries while playing for his country. His critics are now arguing that he should have been made to write a letter just like the Ayew brothers and Kevin Prince Boateng when they returned to action for Ghana last week.
