The General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketsiah has described the Supreme Court verdict on the election petition as "neither victory for NDC nor an NPP defeat." According to him the NDC's victory is "a Ghanaian success.� �The NDC wishes to urge all Ghanaians irrespective of our political religious social and economic background to seize the moment and celebrate the collective achievement with a common sense of purpose and look into the future with a justifiable sense of pride. This is neither a victory for the NDC nor an NPP defeat� he said. The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that President John Dramani Mahama was validly elected as president in the 2012 general elections. Addressing some jubilant supporters at the party�s headquarters in Accra, Mr. Asiedu Nketsiah said "the Supreme Court verdict is but only a validation of what we already knew and strongly believed as the through outcome of the last elections and reflection of the will of the people of Ghana.� He described the last eight months as a collective effort that has helped the country to resolve, internalize and abide by the democratic principles in solving its differences through constitutional democracy. Mr. Asiedu Nketsiah commended the judiciary and other groups for showing maturity in how they dealt with case. �The NDC wishes to commend the judiciary especially the justices, the media, civil society religious bodies the other political parties and the generality of Ghanaians for their patience and high sense of democratic maturity during and the rather long hearing of this petition� he said. He also called on the Electoral Commission to renew its commitment by performing better in future elections. �With this chapter closed, the NDC invites everybody to support President John Dramani Mahama government to deliver the better Ghana agenda� he added.
