One of Ghana�s seasoned radio presenters, Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey aka Abeiku Santana, of Okay FM, who has carved a niche for himself in the showbiz industry was last Saurday honoured by the chief and people of Nkusukum Tradition Area in the Central Region during this year�s Odambea Festival.
The most listened radio presenter was honoured for his contributions to the development of Nkusukum at a durbar to commemorate the Odambea Festival of the chiefs and people of Nkusukum at Saltpond.
Looking rather humbled and overwhelmed as he was being honoured for his contribution to the development of the area, Abeiku was full of praise to God.
He told BEATWAVES: �I feel so honoured. I thank the Almighty God for giving me strength and I thank every human being in every part of this world who has supported me in diverse ways to get this far. I never in my entire life imagined that such a reputable body will take cognizance of what I do. I feel so motivated and encouraged.�
Odambea is a festival celebrated by the people of Nkusukum to commemorate the migration of the Borbor Nfantsi from Tekyiman to their present settlement.
This year�s festival dubbed �MTN Odambea 2013�attracted a large number of personalities, people from all walks of life, showbiz personalities and a section of stakeholders from the Ghanaian creative industry and beyond.
There was a line-up of fun, exciting and entertainment-packed activities which including a musical concert dubbed �MTN Street Jam�
which was held at the Millers Square at Saltpond last Saturday with historic performances from some of the finest hiplife artistes who thrilled thousands�both indigenes and visitors�to exciting music.
Some of the artistes who performed at the event included Stonebwoy, Keche, Nhyiraba Kojo, Stay Jay, Yaa Pono and D Cryme.
For over five hours, the music stars held music fans spellbound with their music, but more than anything, their electrifying dance skills wowed the crowd.
They surprised the fans with a dramatic blend of traditional and contemporary rhythms which created new syntheses that mesmerised and dazzled the cheering crowd.
Music fans were initially too shy or overwhelmed by the artistes� charming personality to get on their feet to dance; some sat wiggling in their seats, almost to the chagrin of the artistes.
Addressing the chiefs and people at a grand durbar at, Saltpond, to climax activities commemorating the festival, Nana Kwesi Brebo III, the acting paramount chief of the Inkusukum appealed for the expansion of the Saltpond Municipal Hospital to cope with the increasing patient attendance.
He further called for the tarring of Anokyi/Kuntu road where majority of salt produced in the Mfantseman Municipality comes from.
He also pleaded for the completion of the Police quarters in the area which was abandoned over 30 years ago.
Mr Charles Obeng-Nkum, Member of Parliament for Agona West, represented the President and donated drinks and 2,000 to the chiefs for the celebration.
Mr Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, MP for Mfantseman and Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Aqua-culture Development, urged the people to rekindle their communal spirit to facilitate the development of the area.
Nana Appredontwi IX, chief of Duadze and Chairman of the 2013 Odambea Festival Planning Committee, called for a change in the date of the celebration of the festival in order not to coincide with Ahobaakese festival of the people of Abeadze Dominase.
