Nationwide Campaign Against Measles-Rubella To Commence Soon

On Wednesday, the Ghana Health Service will launch against the measles-rubella disease by vaccinating children from nine months to 14 years. The campaign is slated to take place for two weeks and this is to help achieve the MDG on Infant and Child Health. The Manager of the Expanded Programme on Immunization, Dr Kwadwo Antwi Adjei says parents will have to look out for vantage points in their communities where vaccination officers will be stationed. Rubella, also known as German measles or three-day measles,[1] is a disease caused by the rubella virus. This disease is often mild and attacks often pass unnoticed. If a mother is infected within the first 20 weeks of pregnancy with the disease, her child may be born with congenital rubella syndrome (CRS), which entails a range of serious incurable illnesses.
