Ambulance Conveying Two Pregnant Women Involved In Accident

Two pregnant women being conveyed from the Obuasi Government Hospital to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) suffered double agony when the ambulance conveying them was involved in an accident at Ofoase Kokoben in the Ashanti Region at about 2:30 pm on Saturday. They were being rushed to KATH in severe labour pains when a Toyota Corolla saloon car with registration number AS 3239-13, veered off its lane and rammed into the ambulance. The two women, identified as Olivia Appiah, 19, and Afia Takyiwaa, 21, were taken to the Abenkyiman Hospital at Anwiankwanta for treatment immediately after the accident. The driver of the saloon car, Rev Yeboah Frimpong, who is the Head Pastor of the Assemblies of God Church, at Dunkwa-Kyekyewere, also suffered injury to his left leg. Briefing the Daily Graphic at the accident scene, Mr Azeka Ayorigo, a Senior Emergency Medical Technician in Bekwai, said the medical team was conveying the pregnant women from Obuasi to KATH when the saloon car ran into the ambulance. That, he said, resulted in the ambulance running over a gutter before landing on its side in a nearby bush. He said since the pregnant women were wearing seat belts, they were not immediately found with any injury but were all the same rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment and further checks to ensure their safety. Rev. Yeboah Frimpong, when contacted, said he was driving from Kumasi to Dunkwa-Kyekyewere when his car veered off its lane, resulting in the accident. He said he did not actually know what went wrong, and that he was thankful that no one died.
