Local authorities and media outlets, have been asked to work as partners to enhance development. Professor Amin Alhassan, Dean of the Faculty of Agribusiness and Communication Science of the University for Development Studies, who made the call, said such partnership could lead to better alternatives in terms of policy strategies for enhanced development. He was speaking in Tamale on Monday at the launch of the first anniversary of Kesmi FM, a privately-owned radio station located in Tamale. Activities line-up for the anniversary, which will be climaxed next month are blood donation, community clean-up exercises, and donation to the needy. The anniversary is on the theme: �Redirecting the Impact of Private Radio on the Socio-Cultural Development of Northern Ghana.� Professor Alhassan said the local media houses had become a forum where people shared their opinions about developments in their communities, adding local assemblies should therefore take advantage of such a situation to deliver better services to the people. He said when the local media played its watchdog roles effectively by pointing out the ills in the assemblies and the local authorities also addressed them (ills), the people would enjoy better services. He called on local radio stations to do programmes that championed behavioural change in society. Mr Ibrahim Kessie, Chief Executive of Kesmi FM, assured that the station would continue to improve programming to serve the needs of all.
