4 Killed In Kwashieman Crash (Photo)

Four persons were killed in a gory accident yesterday at Kwashieman in Accra when an Abidjan-Lagos bound bus crashed into their taxi. Two of the victims, according to police reports, died on the spot while the other two passed on while receiving treatment at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. The only surviving person in the taxi, identified as Janet Lamptey, who sustained serious injuries, is in critical condition receiving treatment at the health facility. The dead were identified as Francis Tawiah, the taxi driver; Aisha Abdul Rahman, 29; Faustina Quarnoe, 18; and Florence Essel, 30. Passengers on board the Daf bus were however unhurt. Briefing Daily Guide, ASP Abudulai Mumuni, Commanding Officer in charge of the Odorkor Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU), said the accident occurred around 1:38am yesterday at the Kwashieman intersection. The Abidjan-Lagos bound bus, registered as XA 670EJA 63 in Ejigbo, Osun State, Nigeria, and loaded with passengers, was being driven by Gbadamosi Ganiyu. On reaching the Kwashieman traffic lights intersection, the Daf bus crashed into the Suzuki taxi cab with registration number GX 5464-13 with five passengers. Two of the victims, both females, died on the spot, while the other two passed on while receiving treatment at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. The bodies have been deposited at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital morgue for preservation. Meanwhile, Gbadamosi Ganiyu, driver of the Lagos-Abidjan bus, has been arrested by the police to assist them in their investigations. Both vehicles have been towed to the Odorkor MTTU station.
