Jake And Sir John Lack The 3cs In Politics

Between Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, the National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, also known as rustic Sir John, who is a disaster of a politician? A Chairman of a political party, is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of that movement, he is like a football coach, or a General who leads his players or troops to play a game or war, after losing, instead of asking yourself whether the tactics you employed help your cause, you employ a defeatist attitude, you blame the referee, but not your game plan. I have had cause to tell the NPP that you cannot fight todays war, with yesterdays strategy. The world has changed a lot of innovation and scientific evolution is happening every day. The world all over, the paradigm is shifting, new and youthful leaders are emerging, the old are given way for the youth, who are the future, unfortunately, the NPP seem to be caught in the past. We have a new generation of leaders. Nana Akufo-Addo, was an expired product with no value, no amount of advert would change the fact, so selling him was like engaging in illegality, yet the NPP failed to see reason with the new changing world, that has place its faith in the hands of the youth. He lost in 2008 in a run-off, in what became known as the Tain decider. In 2012 General Election, the Supreme Court became the decider. This is a man we are talking about, who against all odds, many predicted to beat ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor, in the 1997 Primaries of the NPP, he lost and Kufuor went on to become the President. With such records, who will be afraid of such a candidate, Jake must know who to blame and what to do. As a Chairman, you should be worried that after four years of extensive campaign, making sure that you left no stone unturned, after so many tours, such as Listening tour, Restoring Hope Tour etc, it took President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC, just three months to beat an over hyped and over advertised candidate. Simple! He has no value. One of the most important P, in the 4ps of Marketing is the product. If I was Jake, the first and the most important question, I will ask myself is, what went wrong? But like a loser that he is, he has decided to take the easy way out, blame Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan and the Electoral Commission(EC), for his failure to deliver victory to the NPP. Jake and Sir John lack what I will call the 3Cs in politics, Conscience, Caution and Common Sense. This is a man, who was described as a Strategist, how that conclusion was made, I am still struggling to come to terms with, because he didnt have the slightest clue on how to win an election. Former President, John Agyekum Kufuor was right after all, when he said that he won both the 2000 and the 2004 elections on his own strength. Prior to that admission, Jake has been going round, claiming that he won those elections for Kufuor and the NPP. In those two elections that he used to boast of having won for John Kufuor, I am wondering who the Electoral Commissioner was, was it Nana Addo or the same Dr. Kwawdo Afari Gyan that he (Jake) think today must be hanged. Like a Dog, he has given him a rope and hanged him. This is disingenuous. Holding a Press Conference and asking that Afari Gyan be sacked is not the solution to the problem NPP is facing, rubbishing the request by the EC to send proposals for Electoral Reforms, is not the solution NPP need. I think the solution NPP need is for Jake to be voted out, rustic Sir John be voted and finally Nana Addo to give way to a more vibrant and youthful leader. The solution is simple, for NPP to see power again, they must do away with these three individuals, who portend a bad omen for the party. If you go to Court, and you lose a case, do you say that the Judge be sacked or you gather new information to appeal? NPP must go back to the drawing board and stop behaving like the country owes them something. Political parties are more effective when they are founded on a set of ideas ; this is so because IDEAS LIVE LONGER THAN PEOPLE. If a political party has a strong grounding in ideology, it can keep its members and supporters and provide leadership to the governed, even if the leadership changes. This is exactly what is lacking in the political party structure of the NPP. Nana Addo has become like a cult and cant let go. The calls for him to go again for the third time, is one last attempt that is not going to help the NPP. A newspaper yesterday asked a question and that is What Does NPP Want? A Flagbearer Or A President? I share in this question. With over two decades already gone in our democratic trek, it is sad that we have a political party that do not have a defining process, they have not been able to identify the needs and concerns of the people by interacting with the public at different levels of society, address these needs and concerns through the formulation of policies and thirdly execute their policies to the public. A political party, ordinarily has three persons called voice, choice and continuity. The voice is the capability of parties to provide a voice for different elements of society, and provide a safe means of competing with other parties without threats of violence. The choice is the alternative, they provide to the ruling government and the continuity is who leads the party at what point in time. It was not difficult for the NDC to choose a leader after the demise of President John Evans Atta Mills. How the NPP does in 2016, depends largely on who they chose to represent them. An octogenarian, wont help their course. I hope the voices of reason in the party are listening.
