Today Is 104 Birthday Anniversary Of First President Of Ghana, Dr Kwame Nkrumah

Today marks the 104th birthday of Ghana's First President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah. Even though, Dr Nkrumah died in 1972, his memory still lingers on the minds of many Ghanaians and Africans. His birthday, the 21st of September, is observed as Founder's Day and a statutory holiday. Meanwhile, the son of Ghana's first President, Dr Sekou Nkrumah says the ideas and philosophy of his father for Africa and Ghana in particular are still relevant to addressing the challenges facing the continent. Speaking to Radio Ghana on the relevance of his father's birthday, Dr Sekou said what today's leaders on the continent need to do is to reposition the ideas of Dr Nkrumah to meet current societal demands. In a related development, the public is reminded that today, 21st September, which marks Dr Kwame Nkrumah's birthday is a statutory public holiday. A statement issued in Accra and signed by the Minister of the Interior, Kwesi Ahwoi, said in view of the fact that the day falls on a Saturday, the President has by Executive Instrument declared Monday 23rd September, a public holiday and it should be observed as such throughout the country.
