Police have confirmed that Kofi Adjei-Yawson, the lawyer who committed suicide in his office on Monday, personally wrote his suicide note before killing himself.
According to Superintendent Frank Adufati, the Accra Regional Crime Officer, the wife of the deceased, Mrs. Felicia Adjei-Yawson, identified the handwriting as that of her husband at the police station upon interrogation on Monday.
In an interview with Daily Guide, the Accra Regional Crime Officer said Mrs. Adjei-Yawson, in her statement to the police, admitted that she saw her husband writing something in their living room but he immediately folded the paper and hid it in his pocket upon seeing her, before stepping out that fateful night.
The suicide note read: �Naa give the written Standard Cheque to my wife. Pick the Cheque from Makola. Pay in and use signed Cheque for my wife. The balance in the Fidelity account is about GH3,000 plus about GH7,000 from Makola. Mankoadze owes GH2,000.�
The deceased later told his wife that he was going for a stroll and left the house around 12 midnight. However, after a while, the lawyer was not returning and so the wife informed friends and relatives about the development and a search was mounted for him.
At about 6:00am on Monday, Mr. Yawson-Adjei was seen hanging in his office by relatives, with the suicide note on the table.
A report was then lodged with the Accra Regional Police for investigations.
Meanwhile, when Daily Guide visited the deceased�s Adabraka office, his workers were busily going about their normal duties.
Most of the workers were tight lipped and did not want to comment on the issue. One of the workers, who spoke to the paper on condition of anonymity, said Mr. Adjei-Yawson, until his death, was absentminded as regards his duties at the office.
�we realized that something was wrong with our boss but we dared not ask him since it was none of our business,� the staff said. The source, however, noted that it came as a surprise to them when it was finally reported that he had committed suicide.
The employee, who was afraid to divulge any information to the media, said workers had been warned by the family not to talk to the media.
Attempts to speak to Naa, the lady to whom the suicide note was addressed, were unsuccessful, as she was said not to be in the office.
Forty-four-year-old Kofi Yawson-Adjei, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of property Lane Limited, was found dead in his office early Monday morning.
Yawson-Adjei, who was the Secretary of Ghana Institute of Surveyors, was found hanging with an electric cable in his CUA House Office at Adabraka, Accra.
Before his death, the deceased, who was also a Land Surveyor, left a written note and a signed cheque for about GH3,000, directing it to be given to his wife, Felicia Yawson-Adjei.
Meanwhile, the police have stated that no foul play was suspected since investigations so far revealed that he indeed hanged himself.
The police said when the body of Mr. Yawson-Adjei was discovered, there were no marks of violence on him.
His copse had since been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for preservation.
He left behind a wife and three children.
