Rival Churches Clash At Crusade

Five person�s sustained severe wounds after members of Saviour Church of Ghana, led by Superintendent Elia Asirifi Dadeako, were attacked by fellow rival Church, The Saviour Church of Ghana, at a Crusade ground at Agogo in the Asante Akyem District of the Ashanti Region. Narrating the incident to this reporter, Kwabena Agyei, one of the Directors of Saviour Church of Ghana explained that, they went to Asante Akyem Juansa, to have their occasional convention with their church members. He told The New Independent that, on reaching the convention grounds and having commenced the convention, other Church members, believed to be from the rival church, the Registered Trustees of the Saviour Church of Ghana, attacked members of Saviour Church of Ghana throwing stones, and destroying chairs and canopies belonging to Saviour Church of Ghana. He said, although members of the Saviour Church of Ghana had Police protection to deter the opposing faction, they still managed to throw stones, which damaged the windscreen of a Mercedes Benz ML four wheel drive belonging to Superintendent Alia Asirifi Dadeako. �Had it not been for the timely intervention of the Konongo Divisional Police Command, the worst would have happened as the other rival church that started the attack wielding machetes, would have caused a lot more damage,� Kwabena Agyei added. Speaking to The New Independent, the Konongo Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Alex Amenyo, noted that, the Police have halted the Crusade and launched investigations into the matter. As that the time of filing this report, the Konongo Divisional Commander hinted that, they had invited some key leaders of the two feuding churches for questioning. The New Independent has learnt that, until now, no arrest have been made as the police were still investigating the matter. Superintendent Alia Asrifi Dadieko, told The New Independent that, during the scuffle at the Crusade grounds at Asante Akyem Juansa, the angry mob from the Registered Trustees of the Saviour Church shouted that, they had the support of government and that, their government is in power. He therefore the John Dramani Mahama-led Government to come out on the issue to clear the air as to whether it backs the rival church or not.
