Investing In Education Is A Political Decision - Sammy Awuku

Aspiring National Youth Organiser of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Samuel Awuku has asked government to bring in reforms in the education sector of the country. He bemoaned how politicians play with education and urged that if government is dedicated to fulfilling its mandate, it should focus on the countrys educational system; otherwise, Ghana is losing its future The former Deputy Communication Director of the NPP was commenting on some 182,000 BECE candidates who are likely to find difficulty in being placed in any of the Senior High Schools in the country. The candidates either failed in at least one of the core subjects: Mathematics, English language, Social Studies, and Integrated Science and obtained grade 7 and above instead of the required passing grade of between one and six. Speaking on the issue, Awuku emphasized on Kokrokoo that the countrys future is shaky until we put emphasis and importance on our educational system. Our educational system now favours students whose parents are richit is such that the rich are the only ones who will progress and benefit from it but whether we like it or not, we need to have dispassionate policy on our education Ghana must show commitment if she knows investing in the future of the youth in terms of education will assure development. The country must invest in its education investing in education is a political decision he noted.
