NUGS Confirm Nana Addos Award

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has confirmed to Citi News its decision to award the 2012 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo. It however debunked the media conjectured title, the statesman of the decade award to be conferred on Nana Akufo Addo. According to the NUGS Secretary, Louisa Agyemang, a committee has been tasked to work on the award categories. There is a committee that is actually working on this particular award and as I speak to you now we are yet to meet them for the confirmation of all the awardees including Nana Addo and we have not confirmed as to what title must be giving to him. She disclosed that former President J.A. Kufuor and former President Jerry John Rawlings are among some of the deserving awardees to be awarded at NUGS 47TH Anniversary scheduled for October 11 at the Erata Hotel in Accra. The two former Presidents J.A. Kufuor and Jerry John Rawlings will also be honoured and so we are waiting for the list from the committee. Louisa Agyemang also downplayed the assertion that NUGS leadership was divided on partisan political lines. In NUGS what we know is that the moment you become a student leader you will cease to play any role in mainstream politics and so it is just a perception out there that we are politically motivated. She thus advised all student body leadership in tertiary institutions to concentrate on serving the interest of students.
