Government has dispatched officials to the Italian island of Lampedusa to ascertain if Ghanaian nationals were part of the victims who drowned in Thursday�s boat sinking disaster. According to a Deputy Minister for Information and Media Relations, Felix Kwakye Ofosu �Government has dispatched officials to Lampedusa the site of the disaster, who are currently working with the Italian authorities to claim information about the involvement of Ghanaians.� Over one hundred bodies have so far been recovered after the boat carrying more than 300 African migrants caught fire and sunk off the coast of Lampedusa. Although there are reports of divers still searching for survivors, Deputy Minister of Information and Media Relations, Felix Kwakye Ofosu who could not deny or confirm Ghana�s involvement in the disaster stated that government is yet to confirm if there were any Ghanaian casualties. Speaking to Citi News the Deputy Minister said �since hearing the incident yesterday, government has taken a number of steps to ascertain the veracity of reports that there was Ghanaian involvement.� According to him, Ghana�s mission to Italy has been directed to get in touch with the Italian authorities to learn whether indeed there was Ghanaian involvement. He added that based on the reports that would be received, government would act accordingly.
