Man, Slashing His Friend In The Face With A Knife After They Started Arguing Over What Beer To Buy

A man who slashed his friend in the face with a knife after they drunkenly argued over what beer to buy from an off licence has been jailed. Drunken Desmond Porter, 31, had been out clubbing with two friends in Birmingham before the attack outside an RK Wines off licence in Birmingham. The three of them visited the shop in the early hours of the morning when they started arguing. A shop worker asked them to leave but they started fighting and it spilled out onto the street. Porter smashed a bottle over the head of one man, before pulling a knife from a sheath on his belt and slashing it across the face of the other narrowly missing his eye. Police saw Porter throw the bloodied weapon over a wall moments after they arrived at the scene in May this year. Today unemployed Porter was jailed for four years and eight months at Birmingham Crown Court for the attack. The savage attack was captured on mobile phones by residents in flats overlooking the scene. Staff inside the shop closed the shutter and dialled 999. The court heard how Porter had been drinking heavily throughout the night at a club with his two neighbours. When officers arrived, they saw blood-soaked Porter throw the weapon over a wall and run away, but after a chase on foot he was tackled to the floor and arrested. The knife was recovered later and forensically linked him to the attack. When questioned, Porter denied the assault but when shown damning CCTV footage of the attack, he accepting full responsibility. Detective Constable Andrew Hiles, from West Midlands Police CID, said: Fuelled by alcohol Porter went on to attack people he called his friends. Even though we had the crime captured on camera, Porter failed to take responsibility for his actions and repeatedly denied the assault.
