The Norwegian Ambassador to Ghana, Hege Hertzberg has indicated that her country would assist Ghana to manage its oil resources.
The Norwegian Government has successfully managed the resource and revenue over the years.
The country first found oil in the 1960s in the vicious North Sea and has increasingly developed technologies to harness the resource to reduce the socio-economic and environmental impacts that normally characterize exploration of oil and gas globally.
She expressed her country�s readiness to assist Ghana to build capacity in the management of the resource.
The Norwegian Ambassador stated this in an interview with journalists after she visited the offices of the Sekondi-Takoradi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (STCCI) to interact with officials of the chamber behind closed doors.
The only way for people to benefit immensely from the oil resources is to ensure that they actively take part in harnessing the resources, she said.
Vincent Annan, Executive Secretary of the Chamber, stressed that the Chamber has been at the forefront in the speedy passage of the Local Content Participation Policy into law to enhance the promotion of businesses in the country.
He therefore commended Cabinet for approving the Bill and forwarding it to Parliament for further consideration and passage.
He mentioned that Norway has great examples in terms of policies, regulations and best practices in the oil and gas industry that could be imitated for the development of Ghana�s oil and gas sector.
To this end, he said some members of the Chamber, together with some logistics companies, would soon visit Norway to study the management of the country�s oil and gas sector.
Mr. Annan added that the visit would also enable Ghana to undertake evidence based advocacy in championing the cause of women in the oil and gas supply chain, adding �we will also hold meetings with the Chamber in Oslow�.
He said most members of the STCCI have been complaining about the high cost of doing business at Ghana�s Port, adding that the members would visit some selected ports in Holland and Hamburg to learn their good practices.�
