NPP To Begin Processes For 2016 Elections Today

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has began processes ahead of the 2016 elections today. The decision to begin the process was reached at a National Executive Committee (NEC)meeting held at the party�s headquarters in Accra on Thursday. Speaking on Eyewitness News the Acting Director of Communications for the NPP, Perry Okudzeto, explained that the meeting was organized to dialogue and put together ideas that would help in building a stronger party for the 2016 elections and beyond. He revealed that although the dialogue did not favour the proposals by the Steering Committee, a timetable was put together by the party to see to the effective running of activities for the election of polling station, constituency, regional and national executives before the election of the flag-bearer from the 11th of October 2013 to the 1st of March 2014. �From tomorrow, polling stations and electoral areas are supposed to start compiling the polling station register to be validated and then start the education exercise as to who qualifies to vote and who qualifies to contest the election. We expect this exercise to run from tomorrow up to the 30th of October,� he said. He also added that the polling station elections would start from 1st of November to the 30th of November 2013, then constituency elections from the 14th of December except constituencies in the Eastern region which would have their elections on the 15th of December 2013. �Regional executives elections nationwide would be held on the 25th of January 2014. By the 28th of January 2014, all natonal albums would have been submitted to the national headquarters � and then we will go to elect new national executives officers on the 1st of March� he added. Mr. Okudzeto further disclosed that what qualifies one to vote or contest in these elections� is that you must be a registered member of the party and two years old in the party.�
