President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated government�s commitment to keep all citizens and residents of the country safe in fulfilment of the �Better Ghana Agenda.�
�It is the responsibility of our government to ensure that all citizens and residents can go about their daily activities, engage in their legitimate businesses, without fear or intimidation. Without security, it will be impossible to prosecute the �Better Ghana Agenda,� the President stated.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the 45th cadet officers� course at the Ghana Police College in Accra on Friday, the President thanked the security personnel of the country who worked hard, and on a continuous basis, to ensure that Ghana remained the most stable and most peaceful country in the sub region during and after the 2012 Elections and the aftermath of the Supreme Court verdict.
According to the President, �the Police Service has demonstrated that its personnel will always rise to the occasion when the need arises.�
He also revealed that in line with promoting a democratic policing culture and to meet the growing security requirements of the nation, the hitherto militarized Armoured Car Squadron has been transformed into the Formed Police Unit (FPU) to deal with Public Order Management, Hostage Rescue, VVIPU Escort, and Protection for UN Mission areas.
�I am personally committed to seeing a well-equipped modern Police Service, not only to perform its traditional role of maintaining law and order, but also to improve upon its �service� delivery component.
As the immediate past Chairman of the Police Council, I see it as an obligation to ensure that the remainder of the good plans we made during my tenure for the advancement of the Service, are promptly implemented,� he said.
The President also informed them about the establishment of the Police Command and Staff College which would be situated in Winneba in the central Region.

The College will provide a scheme of training courses to include:
1. Junior Strategic Command Courses;
2. Senior Strategic Command Courses;
3. Police Management Courses; and
4. Courses for Senior Police Executives.
Participants of these courses would learn executive leadership, strategic management and development, as well as strategic professional policing.
Additionally, they will gain a critical understanding of global systems of peace and development; the multiple dimensions of conflicts, conflict resolution and peace building; economic policies, poverty and natural resource conflict; and many other new dimensions of policing and security.
Some 20 officers would constitute the first batch of students to this College and are due to report there on the 4th of November 2013� the President added.
