Participants at a National Dialogue on Girls� Camp, in Accra at the weekend, came out with guidelines on more effective girl�s camp to help bridge the gender gap in education and gender parity. The vision and plan was formulated and agreed upon by key stakeholders such as National Development Planning Commission, Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, Plan Ghana and World University Students of Canada. The dialogue which was organised by the Actionaid marked the 2013 International Day of the Girl Child which was on the theme: �Innovation for Girls Education.� Madam Queronica Quartey, Policy and Campaign Manager of Actionaid said the guidelines on the girl�s camp were to build confidence and improve the power within the girls to become leaders and serve as role models and communities. She said it also aimed at facilitating sharing and learning among the girls, who came from culturally diverse backgrounds towards building a sense of nationalism and inculcate a sense of discipline and hard work among the campers. Madam Quartey said over the past 10 years Actionaid has been organising girls� camp for children from poor and deprived communities to get the opportunities to interact with professional women role models, visit the capital city, improve their reading and studying habits. The Policy and Campaign Manager noted that this is because Actionaid considers education as one of the best way of attaining its aim of ending poverty. She said when the girls acquire education they would be able to increase their chances to a better.
