Suicide Craze Catches Ghanaians�As Another Man, 56, Commits Suicide After Drinking Tea

A fifty-six-year-old auto-electrician, Victor Dagadu, has committed suicide by handing himself with a rope at Nsokwao, a suburb of Koforidua on Wednesday at around 10am. Master Dagadu�s death adds to many recent reported cases of a section of Ghanians who are suicide happy and are busy ending their lives abruptly. The 56-year-old hanged himself in his room shortly after he was seen drinking tea and interacting with residents in his neighborhood on the fateful day. The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the St Joseph�s Hospital in Koforidua pending autopsy. The deceased left behind a wife and two children. Information gathered by the Daily Heritage at the scene indicates that, the deceased had on several occasions disclosed to a few residents around, his intention to commit suicide, but was not taken seriously. According to sources, the deceased who had recovered from a long illness was seen on Wednesday drinking tea in the house and interacted with a few friends around showing no sign of psychological trauma. An eye witness, Margret Mensah, told the paper that, she was passing and decided to extend greetings to the deceased in his room only to find the deceased hanging and strangling. She called residents around to save the deceased, but he died when efforts were being made to unite the rope. The shocking incidents attracted many residents who trooped to the scene to have a gripes of the lifeless body of the deceased. Some residents the paper spoke to expressed surprise about the incident stating that, the deceased though a fan of alcohol, has good relation with residents in the community. The New Juaben Municipal Police Commander, DSP Christopher Quarcoo who later dispatched police officers to the scene told the paper that the police are investigating the incident.
