PPP Will Not Unite With Smaller Parties Who Only Admire The Fingers, Shoes And Works of Dr. Nkrumah

National Youth Coordinator of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), Divine Nkrumah has rubbished allegations that the PPP is in talks with the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) and the Peoples National Convention (PNC) for a possible merger. Divine Nkrumah described the PPP as the third largest political party in the country so therefore will not associate itself to any smaller party thus being it either CPP or PNC. He however questioned the CPP and the PNC for their reasons for the alleged merge which has escalated in the media. As for unity, everybody wants it; unity is strength. If the PNC and CPP are talking about a possible merger, then the question which pops up is which kind of unity are they talking about? Is it a kind of merger which would increase our (PPP) votes to win power or one that would perpetually reduce our votes to remain in opposition forever? Or is it just about uniting symbols? he quizzed. The 2008 flagbearer of the CPP, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom broke away from the party to form the PPP in the lead up to the 2012 elections. But it is alleged that Dr. Nduom is now hoping to bring the two Nkrumahist parties together to wrestle power from the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2016. Before the 2012 elections, the PNC was in talks with the CPP for a possible merger prior to the general elections but it never happened. But after the abysmal performance of the smaller political parties in the 2012 polls, suggestions for them to join forces for future elections increased. Most social and political commentators were of the view that a merger will increase their chance of winning and also enable them make a positive impact in the country. In an interview with Peacefmonline.com, Divine Nkrumah who dislikes the merging talks opined that, the PPP is not interested in parties whose houses are already in disarray adding The PPP will not yoke with smaller parties whose only interest is to admire the fingers, shoes and works of Kwame Nkrumah, yet they do nothing for themselves. They (PNC and CPP) do not even practice what they always preach. He however noted that Dr. Kwame Nkrumah would by now be tossing in his grave because CPP and PNC have failed him. Those parties are indeed dead and gone with the founder. The PPP youth coordinator is of a view that, CPP and PNC can only seam with PPP if they curb the internal wrangling and bickering in their respective parties.
