The Police administration has hinted that, it would this week make public, a number of investigations it has conducted over the period, to inform the general public of the various outcomes and punishment handed over to culprits, concerning stories which sometimes involved murders. According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Police, DSP Cephas Arthur, it has become imperative for the administration to give out such information, because even though in the past, culprits in such investigations have been punished, they, as an administration, have failed to update the public on what they did to such persons. DSP Arthur, who was speaking on Joy FM�s Friday night show �Ghana Connect,� hosted by Fred Smith, believed that the time was ripped for the Police to include that initiative in their relationship with the public, adding that it will encourage members of the public to have confidence in the Police, to enable them volunteer information to help them combat crime and maintain law and order. He was reacting to media reports by members of the public that the Police have over the years, failed to update the public on what they have been able to achieve with the many investigations it has conducted, which sometimes bother on the killings of innocent civilians. High on the ladder, has been the recent fire outbreaks, which claimed properties, worth millions of Ghana Cedis in markets, such as the Kantamanto, Makola, Agbogbloshie, Mallam, Madina, Kumasi Central, Circle Odorna markets. He said, though it was the right of the public to know the outcome of these investigations, they have also come to the realization that, it was the responsibility of the Police to make such information available to the public free. Even though, President John Mahama in the wake of the fire outbreaks called for assistance from the United States (US) government and officials were sent down for first hand information, very little have been heard since their departure, apart from confirmation by the Interior Ministry that an interim report has been presented to the Ministry and that it is being studied. Explaining further, the PRO noted that even though he cannot say that everything will be released this week, he is confident that they will come out with a number of them. On officers themselves engaging in lawless, DSP Arthur said, the administration has been committed in investigating such offences and where they were found at the wrong side of the law, they were punished, except that they fail to update the public, a situation they were seeking to correct. �We will come out next week to give out some of the incidents that came into the public domain, which were discussed all over, so as to enable the public know what we have done about them to engender the requisite confidence that the public have to develop in us so that they can also support us. �The fact is that under all such circumstances, investigations are conducted and where officers are found culpable punishments are prescribed and they suffer the consequence except that us we ourselves have realized there have been that missing link where the pub is also is not informed about the report or results of such investigation and that is what we are planning to plug�, DSP Arthur explained.
