Most Gov't Appointees Are Squatters Says Dep Minister

It is startling to know that despite the comfort and extreme luxury most of our ministers and their deputies are enjoying, some claim they have no place to lay their heads at night. The Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, Hon. Sampson Ahi was first to open up the matter. According to him, the sale of 80 percent of state bungalows during the latter era of ex-President Kufuor, has brought untold pressure on ministers and deputy ministers most of whom have become squatters. But a former Member of Parliament for Asikuma Odobeng Brakwa Constituency in the Central Region, Paul Collins Appiah Ofori, has vehemently debunk the claim and set the records straight. Mr. Appiah Ofori in an interview with Peacefmonline.com stated that the sale of state assets in the country is something not new to successive government. He explains that when state assets such as vehicles and houses were used for a certain period of time, ministers were afforded the opportunity to buy it or leave it with the state. "In situations where a minister shows no interest in purchasing the asset, the public is made aware of the property for interested persons to buy, Mr. Appiah Ofori added.
