Oye Lithur Did Not Threaten Anyone - Gender Ministry

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has denied media reports that its Minister, Nana Oye Lithur threatened to cause to cause the arrest of any official of the Ministry. Media reports suggested Mrs. Lithur had threatened to put to jail her Deputy and Director of Social Welfare over the adoption of an 18-month-old baby by some two good Samaritans. Speaking to Citi News, the Head of Communications and Public Affairs at the Ministry, Mercy Adjabeng denied the allegations saying, the Minister did not at any point in time tell the Deputy or the Director of Social Welfare that they are going to be thrown in jail. According to her, the Minister does not have the power to take such an action adding that the Mrs Lithur only wanted to ensure that the Director of Social Welfare at the Ministry followed due process in executing his duties in the adoption of the baby. The Director of Social Welfare was asked to ensure that the right thing is done because it is the Director who is supposed to do this and in fact, he was the one who undertook the operation and what the Minister sought to do was to ensure that the Director follows the procedure.
