Neat Foods Company Limited (which produces and markets NEAT Fufu, NEAT Banku, NEAT Abenkwan, NEAT Hausa Koko, NEAT Diary Products) has been adjudged Food Product of the Year 2013. The company which is one of the offspring of the Despite Group of Companies (DGC) received this prestigious award at the maiden Ghana Made Products Awards (GMPA) Night held in Accra yesterday. Special Ice Natural Mineral Water was also declared the Natural Mineral Water Product of the Year 2013. Ghana Made Products Awards is an initiative of Entrepreneurs Foundation of Ghana (EFG), held to honour outstanding Made in Ghana products for excellence and quality as well as offering innovation from competitors on both domestic and international market. This year�s award was dubbed: �Patronising Ghana- Made Products; the Gateway to Economic Development,� and it was under the auspices of Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ministry of Finance and Ghana Standards Authority. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Sam Ato Gaisie, Founder and President of EFG, said �the key objective of the products awards are to provide the platform for Ghanaian consumers to patronise Ghana Made Products and also encourage Ghanaian Industries to make significant improvements in product excellence, innovation and quality to meet challenges of international standards� . Mr Gaisie also stressed that the numerous challenges local industry faces was due to unfair competition from some low quality imported goods on the market, which is holding back the advancement of Ghana�s private sector and national economic growth. Meanwhile, the awards will be conducted annually to create opportunity for manufacturing industries to gain that competitive advantage. Renowned journalist and host of Peace FM�s morning show �Kokrokoo� , Kwami Sefa-Kayi received the award on behalf of Despite Group of Companies (DGC).
