Eight people were killed and many others hurt, some seriously, in a road crash in the early hours of Monday at Juaso in the Asante-Akim South District. Three vehicles, two of them passenger buses, and a Benz cargo truck were involved. The injured were taken to the Juaso District Hospital with those in critical condition referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Augustine Mensah, the Konongo Divisional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Union (MTTU), who confirmed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the bodies of the deceased were yet to be identified and had been deposited at the First Klass Mortuary at Yaw Kwei. He said it happened at about 0430 hours. A Sanyong bus heading towards Accra from Kumasi overtook a Sprinter bus and collided with a cargo truck coming from the opposite direction. The impact caused the truck loaded with plantain to fall on its side and the driver of the Sprinter, who was closely following the Sanyong run his bus into the truck. The driver of the Sprinter along with two other passengers was killed. The five other dead persons were travelling on the Sanyong bus. DSP Mensah said rescuers had a hectic time cutting through the wreckage to free the survivors and remove the dead.
