Have you ever gotten frustrated when you were unable to purchase a service or product online just because you did not have access to an online payment account such as Visa, PayPal, Mastercard, money bookers etc? Well this is the frustration which drove a number of Internet users in Ghana to vent out their anger on social media after which a petition was created on Change.org.(Click here to sign the petition ) This movement was started by Samuel Darko, a District Rotaract Representative and was circulated on Facebook, twitter, mailing lists and other forums to draw attention to this challenge which affects e-commerce and online payment processes in Ghana. Paypal has blacklisted Ghana from its operating markets because of the apparent online fraud activities reported from Ghana and its other English speaking West-African neighbor, Nigeria. In the past, there have been attempts by other groups to present a commercial case for Paypal to begin operations in Ghana, but such initiatives have obviously not been attractive enough for PayPal to change its mind about its presence in a market which can now boast of an online community of more than 2 million people. Although Paypal has a very rigid and advance security weaved on its infrastructure, the online payment company is exercising extreme caution especially after it experienced a few hacking and fraud incidences in the past. As at the time of publishing this post, the petition had gotten 100 signatures. Add your voice to this cause if you are also frustrated with this situation. Will this cause get unto Paypal�s radar if it hasn�t already? Or should there be more concentration on getting the local developer community for figure out a way round this pinching payment problem?
