General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, appears bemused at the way and manner some people have mischievously misinterpreted President John Dramani Mahama�s recent comment when addressing some Municipal and District Chief Executives in Accra regarding those who want to see his back. The President, who has remained silent over his alleged failure to fight corruption, told his critics whom he says can�t wait to see him out of office, to be patient, since 2016 is just around the corner. �For those who disagree with me and are anxious to see my back, do not to worry, 2016 is not too far away. I will urge them to be patient. In this difficult job, the least one expects is loyalty and comradeship,� He said. President Mahama further noted that, those questioning his commitment to fighting corruption do not really know him. �Recently a few of my comrades have questioned my commitment to fight corruption. I dare say they don�t know me,� the President said. But Mr. Asiedu Nketia, who dismissed suggestions that the president�s remark was a direct response to Alban Bagbin�s accusations of a lack of political will to fight corruption. �I am surprise that, some people are saying the (President Mahama) was replying to Alban Bagbin. It�s a very mischievous interpretation,� he said Speaking to Peacefmonline.com, Asiedu Nketia, popularly known in politic circles as General Mosquito, elucidated that, the President�s comment was targeted at some New Patriotic Party (NPP) members who have persistently been calling for his impeachment and who have grown a penchant of politicizing every issue. �When those NPP members were calling for the impeachment of the President, did you hear the president replying them? So if Alban Bagbin is raising some concerns that will help our party (NDC) win power in 2016, why will the president respond to his (Alban Bagbin) positive opinions to the party (NDC)? His (President Mahama) comment was directed to those calling for his impeachment,� he said. He also discounted claims the president is contemplating stepping down in 2016 since he cannot stand the heat from his comrades. �So why must people think the president won�t stand on the ticket of the NDC in 2016�what will happen in 2016? 2016 will give opportunity for those who want to see the back of President Mahama in NPP to send their message to the Ghanaian electorate. �� As to whether the electorates will listen to NPP�s message and vote President Mahama out of office� 2016 will tell. It is very disingenuous for people to ignore those calling for his (President Mahama) impeachment and then claim his statement was directed at Alban Bagbin. Nothing could be further from the truth,� he added.
