Lawyers Charged To Do Free Legal Consult For The Poor

A legal practitioner and the founder of Legal Advocacy Foundation, Lawyer Dr. Maurice Ampaw, has called on his colleague lawyers in Ghana to consider the tax payers money used to pay them as their salary to help the poor by doing free legal cases for them. According to him, the nation is facing a serious crisis where ordinary persons are finding it difficult to get Justice in the country because Justice has become a very expensive commodity to the extent that the charges are too high and even the transportation cost of going to the court is also high. Dr. Ampaw made this call at a press conference in Cape Coast as part of his tour to all the 10 regions in the country to educate the public on the just ended 2012 election petition verdict at the Supreme Court. He again proposed to his colleague to declare a one-week free for all during which they give free legal advice. Touching on corruption in the judiciary he said the countrys judiciary can only move forward if the public find ways to help the Chief Justice to clean the judiciary. He called on all the political parties and public to put politics aside and come on board to help curb the corruption in the judiciary in the country since innocent people are suffering. He also called on the media to be bold and stand by the truth and defend the truth since the truth will set them free and will empower them to become what they want to become in future.
