Vikileaks: NDC Activist Backs Call For Probe Into Oye Lithurs Role Before Election Petition Verdict Was Read

The call from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and other well-meaning members of society for the Chief Justice to probe the allegation (captured on a secret tape) by former Deputy Communications Minister, Victoria Hammah, that Nana Oye Lithur, Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection was used as a conduit to influence the verdict of the 9 member panel of judges on the election petition sounds typical; but for it to emanate from a member of the Governments Communication Team might defy logic. Ms. Hammah raised several eyebrows when a voice purported to be that of hers was caught on tape boasting that ahead of the reading of the election petition, the current administration used Nana Oye Lithur as a vessel to get the Supreme Court Judges to rule in their favor. The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection has denied the allegation and described it as untrue and preposterous. The allegation is untrue and preposterous. For the record, I do not have any sort of relationship with any of the judges who sat on the Petition, which would form the basis of any discussion or meeting with any of them in relation to it, she stated. But the NPP, in a statement signed by its General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, petitioned the Chief Justice to conduct investigations into the matter. And Alhaji Naziru Mohammed, a known NDC Communicator, speaking on Okay Fm, has offered his support for the action taken by the NPP. To the NDC activist, the integrity of Nana Oye Lithur is not in doubt since she has demonstrated so over the years, through her struggle for the poor and the needy in the society, adding that without the investigations, some people will definitely capitalize on the issue and make propaganda capital out of it. .I support the NPPs objective of calling on the Chief Justice to investigate Oye Lithur concerning her alleged involvement in the final verdict of the 2012 Presidential electionit is in the right step so that her name will be cleared forever of this allegation, he opined.
