The Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) has refuted claims in the media that the expired malaria drugs dispensed by the chief pharmacist of the Goaso hospital, Agyeman Badu, were supplied by Tobinco Pharmaceuticals.
According to investigations conducted by the BNI, Kinapharma Limited was the supplier of the expired malaria drug, Lumether 280, to the Goaso Government Hospital and not Tobinco Pharmaceuticals, as earlier claimed.
The BNI report disclosed that the expired product was supplied to the hospital by Kinapharma Company Limited, adding that the authorities of the hospital, upon receiving complaints from patients invited Kofi Nsiah Poku, CEO of Kinapharma Company Limited, who accepted responsibility for the expired drugs.
Mr Nsiah Poku was said to have paid an amount of GH�1,500 as compensation to the affected patients.
The BNI report further revealed that, Mr Agyeman Badu indicated that upon discovery that Kinapharma supplied the drugs; the hospital management invited him over for a meeting.
Mr Agyemang Badu was reported to have said that during the meeting, Mr Nsiah Poku admitted that his company was at fault and as a result, replaced all expired products for the hospital in addition to the money he had earlier paid.
�It is emphasized that Agyeman Badu was questioned on expired KINAPHARMA drugs and not on anything to do with Tobinco,� the BNI report emphasized.
