Prez Mahama Should Cease His P.R Gimmicks - Asamoah Gyamfi

President John Dramani Mahamas anti-corruption and transparency campaign which he started with an instruction to the Attorney General and Finance Ministry to retrieve all judgment debts from foreign firms and the suspension of all GYEEDA payments have been greeted with contempt. A member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPPs) Communication Team believes it is just another Public Relations gimmick by the President; pretending to be working towards fighting against corruption. Outlining a litany of stringent measures to control corruption in the country in a statement issued last Friday, President Mahama noted that accusing someone or an institution of corruption "is an easy one to make", but if the country is serious about eradicating the cancer, "then we must start talking about it rationally, realistically and responsibly." "It also takes transparency, accountability and leadershipall of which, as President, I am committed to giving our nation and our people. I do this not because it is required of me as President. I do this because I am first and foremost a Ghanaianand like any other Ghanaian from Bawku to Berekum, from Kumasi to Aximit is my civic duty," he said. Reacting to the statement on Okay Fm, Asamoah Gyamfi averred that the President is pretending to work for the interest of Ghanaians with his public relations gimmick speech to win the sympathy of the public. Referring to the 25 percent reduction in the electricity tariffs, the NPP activist asserted that the action taken by President Mahama is just a sham. He however opined President Mahama is looking out for private and state institutions to blame them for his failure to eradicate corruption in the country, hence the Presidential Task Forces penchant to accuse almost every institution in the country of evading taxes and engaging in corruption. ..to me President Mahama is not being honest to the people of this country; it is as simple as that. Because what the President is doing is to look for some people to blame for his failure. He has resorted to doing P R gimmicks instead of stamping on his authority as a leader, he slammed.
